History
Originally a tidal flat and fishing ground for Coast Salish communities, False Creek Flats was a major site of early industrial development in Vancouver. By 1915, the area was filled in by two railway companies in order to develop new terminals. Infrastructure was quickly built up on the newly created land, further stimulating industrial development in the area.
Today, False Creek Flats remains an industrial area, but new strategic development is creating an exciting demographic shift. With over 8,000 jobs and a renewed commitment to environmental sustainability, the area is quickly becoming key to Vancouver’s vision for a high-performing economy.
