Overview

Mount Pleasant stretches from Cambie Street to Clark Drive and from Great Northern Way and 2nd Avenue to 16th and Kingsway. It is one of Vancouver’s most up-and-coming neighbourhoods, and is home to many young professionals, families, and innovative businesses. The area is served by the Canada Line and has great proximity to the downtown core. Local shops, breweries, and restaurants attract visitors from all over the city, and the beautiful heritage buildings and frequent arts festivals give this neighbourhood its vibrant and eclectic character.

There is ample green space in Mount Pleasant, with many municipal parks and gardens. Dude Chilling Park – a name adopted after a guerilla artist installed a prank park board sign – is a testament to the unique nature of the community. Though the city originally removed the sign, an online petition started by local residents resulted in its reinstallation as a work of public art.

History

Early on, Mount Pleasant’s proximity to downtown attracted many residents, and as populations grew, it became Vancouver’s first suburb. By 1890, the first streetcars arrived and transformed the area into a center for industry. In the early 1900s, the area attracted a number of breweries, and hops can still be found growing where they stood.
