Summer Intern Experience

This summer, Low Tide welcomed four interns to the team! While their work experience varied by department, each intern had the opportunity to spend time in our communities, learn about other departments and their functions, participate in The Intern Leadership Program, work on a group project, and more.

Before their internship came to an end, we sat down with each of our interns to reflect on the summer term with Low Tide.

How was your experience working at Low Tide?

Sophia Anderson, Marketing Intern

My experience at Low Tide has been fantastic! Over the past 12 weeks, I had the pleasure of working on Low Tide’s Marketing and Tenant Relations team. Throughout my internship, I witnessed the impact strong leadership and work culture can have on individuals. Low Tide has built such an inspiring work culture that made me love coming to work.

My favourite part of the job was being able to interact with Low Tide’s tenants. Planning events and projects that impacted our tenants and their communities was truly a rewarding experience.

Yasmeen Quran, Property Management Intern

One of my best in-person work experiences! Everyone who is a part of the Low Tide team is so welcoming and ready to answer any and all question I have, which is the exact support any student in university needs when approaching the end of their university experience. It was an amazing opportunity.

What is your favourite Low Tide property/neighbourhood?

Chad Godinho, Asset Management Intern

My favourite Low Tide property is 21 Water. The building holds special significance as home base for our company. On top of this, it is a beautiful building with an outstanding view of the city.

Sophia Anderson, Marketing Intern

While planning the Strathcona Block party, I came to love the 800 Block of East Hastings! The block is filled with such great tenants that perfectly complement the neighbourhood. I highly recommend everyone to check it out!

What is one thing you learned this summer?

Rahim Mitha, Corporate Accounting Intern

Beyond the Excel shortcuts and finding my way away around spreadsheets, I learned many valuable lessons. The one thing that stands out most to me was learning about the importance of attention to detail. Across every part of the business, attention to detail plays a critical role in successful operations and happy tenants. From the accuracy of financial statements to the care and management of our buildings and properties, it all comes down to doing the small things well.

Yasmeen Quran, Property Management Intern

I learned to say yes to new experiences, even if I may not think it will benefit me directly. You never know what you can learn. This was proven after I attended the BOMA Women’s event, which I thought would simply be a networking opportunity. Aside from all the amazing women I got to meet, it taught me so much about the industry, the type of people in it, and its future. As a young woman just starting out in this industry, it was motivational to hear these women’s tales of trial, success, and perseverance.

What are your plans now that your internship is complete?

 Rahim Mitha, Corporate Accounting Intern

Having recently graduated from UBC back in May, I am looking forward to taking a few months off to travel and reflect on the previous 4 years of university! I am looking forward to keeping in touch with all the amazing people that I had the chance to meet and work with this summer.
