A New Chapter for 1 Alexander: Where History Meets Creative Energy

Tucked into the storied streets of Gastown, 1 Alexander stands as a testament to the neighbourhood’s enduring charm and creative spirit. Originally built in 1900, the building has long been a quiet anchor in the community.

Recently, we completed a renovation that breathed new life into the space. From reinforcing structural systems and refinishing original floors to installing efficient heating and cooling, every detail was designed to honour the building’s heritage while preparing it for the future.

That transformation set the stage for something unexpected.

In December 2024, we were approached by the team behind The Art of Banksy Without Limits. They were searching for a venue that could match the raw, provocative energy of the exhibit—and 1 Alexander immediately stood out. Just two months later, the exhibit opened its doors, drawing thousands of visitors each week and bringing a fresh wave of energy to the neighbourhood.

The impact has been felt far beyond our walls. Local restaurants, cafés, and shops have seen a boost in foot traffic, and the exhibit has become a cultural touchpoint for the city. It’s a reminder that Gastown is more than a historic district—it’s a living, breathing community where creativity thrives.

With a diverse mix of tenants in tech, design, education, and professional services, Gastown continues to evolve as a hub for innovation and connection. And as summer approaches, we’re excited to welcome even more people into the fold.

This August, Meet Me in Gastown returns for its fourth year—a celebration of the neighbourhood’s unique character, local businesses, and vibrant community spirit. It’s one more way we’re inviting people to experience all that Gastown has to offer.
